PHOTOSHOOT THREE

For the final shoot of this unit I wanted to try and capture the hustle and bustle of the town centre, using long exposure to try and capture the movement and volume of people. I headed into the centre of Manchester using both the shopping centre and the mainline train station to maximise the number of people.

This shoot was during daylight, on a busy Saturday, it took quite a bit of time to set and adjust my tripod and settings, for the long exposure shots I used an ND 1000 filter - as lighting was good I settled on an ISO of 640 with a shutter speed of 4 seconds and an aperture of around F6 to capture as much movement as possible. Even with the ND filter some of the images were over exposed, but changing the shutter speed too much resulted in either people moving through the frame too quickly or showing very little movement so the subjects just appeared out of focus. I think I captured some good shoots both with long exposure and by using layering in edit. I think emulating Titarenkos work was VERY challenging and although a good attempt I have a long way to go!

I’ve chosen the 4 images above as my best images as I feel they reflect the atmosphere and mood I was trying to convey the best. I think the monochrome images really add to the industrial feel, and the image with the warning light in colour whilst using a shallow depth of field came out particularly well.
