FINAL SHOOT

Preparation

After the 3 test shoots for the location unit, for the final shoot I’m going to head back into the city centre and try and combine both aspects of long exposure, using both techniques previously used to try and capture movement. I intend to shoot during daylight, using both a tripod and ND filter to try and capture the hustle and bustle and movement in the town centre, then as the daylight fades continue to use a tripod and remote shutter to try and capture some light trails.

Shooting in the city centre brings its own unique set of health and safety implications, I will be travelling with someone to make sure I stay safe and look after my kit, I also need to make sure I’m not causing an obstruction and transport and set up my kit in a considerate manner so as not to impede or injure others, as daylight fades I intend to use a high visibility vest so people can see me, as well as gloves, hat and torch for myself!

From a legal and ethical perspective, I should be fine, I intend to stay in public places mainly on footpaths or roads (when safe to do so). If for whatever reason I get challenged by a member of the public for taking their picture I intend to be amicable and although perfectly within my rights to take pictures I will offer to delete pictures of individuals if asked to do so, although I’ve never come across this before.

Edits

During this test shoot I tried using several varying ND filters, finding that an ND4 filter was no where near strong enough and resulted in heavily over exposed images even with a shutter speed of 5 seconds, by using a stronger ND filter (ND1000) I could maintain a lower ISO but found that even then a shutter of anything over 2 seconds caused me to not capture anything at all, and the road looked empty, I established that a good aperture was around 3.5 to 4 with a shutter speed of around ½ second to 1 second captured the movement well.
