PHOTOSHOOT ONE
I decided to take my first shoot in Trafford Park, a vast industrial and commercial complex to the south of Manchester, I want to try and capture both the scale of the place and the patterns and textures to show the industrial nature of the area. If I use leading lines and depth of field I think I can do this quite well, by combining that with some close up macro shots and unusual vantage points to highlight the “gritty” aspect. I think the work of Keld Helmer Petersen can help give me a good approach angle for this shoot, his work in Copenhagen harbour has a very similar feel to what I want to try and achieve.

In this shoot I used Keld Helmer Petersen to try and draw inspiration from his work around Copenhagen harbour, It was a bit of a grey autumn day which I think helped capture the industrial feel of the environment. I started the shoot mid afternoon so light was good, meaning I could use the camera settings to capture the shots I wanted using depth of field and reflections. I’m quite pleased with the images I’ve taken and with a little bit of editing I feel they capture the gritty nature quite well.
I’ve chosen the 4 images above as my best images as I feel they reflect the atmosphere and mood I was trying to convey the best. I think the monochrome images really add to the industrial feel, and the image with the warning light in colour whilst using a shallow depth of field came out particularly well.
